Baltic States - Overview

The Baltic Republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania regained their independence in 1991 after the break-up of the USSR and joined the enlarged EU in 2004.

The three Baltic countries continue to register strong economic growth, outpacing the rate of growth in the Central European Region and the EU-27 with a broad based growth and GDP annual growth rates exceeding 7%.

The rapid development of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia has been achieved by a willingness to pursue changes towards a market economy from the very first days of their independence.
